How much does it cost to take part?
The registration fee is £16 for adults and £10 for under 18s. This covers the cost of administration, your T-shirt, light breakfast and refreshments. All the sponsorship money you raise will go directly towards helping the Peace Hospice to continue running its services.
How long is the route?
There is a 6 mile wheelchair friendly route as well as the usual 13 mile (half marathon) route. There will be refreshments along the way and remember - it is not a race!!
Where does the walk go?
The Starlight Walk follows a circular route starting outside the Colosseum then heading through Watford High Street, Bushey Arches, Rickmansworth Road, Croxley Green (13 mile route only) and back through a candle-lit Cassiobury Park before heading back in and around Watford and then finishing back at the Colosseum to collect your well-earned medal!
Will it be safe?
Your safety is of the utmost importance to us. The event has been organised in conjunction with the Hertfordshire Police Force and the route will be heavily marshalled by volunteers.
How long will it take?
The 6 mile route would take around 1.5 hours to complete for a fairly fit walker. The 13 mile walk will take approximately 3.5 hours for a fit walker but there is no rush and we encourage walkers to go at their own pace. There will be lead walkers as well as people at the end of the walk to ensure the last participants return safely.
Is the route suitable for children?
The Starlight Walk is not suitable for children under the age of 13 years. Walkers must be at least 13 years old on Saturday 23rd June to take part. If you're aged 13-16 years on the night, you must be accompanied by a responsible parent/guardian.
Are there toilets?
We have over 60 toilets on route and many of you told us last year that some of them were not lit. We are working towards ensuring that as many as possible are well lit this year.
Do I need to be fit?
No, you can take it at your own pace. We do recommend that you should train before taking part in the walk. If you want to take part but aren't sure whether you can complete the full walk, then why not try our 6 mile walk this year and build up to the 13 mile route next year.
Will there be refreshments?
There will be refreshments around the course and a light breakfast will be served at the end of the route. We suggest you bring water with you, although there will also be water stations on the course.
Can I bring my dog?
No pets or animals are permitted at the Starlight Walk or on the event route except for guide dogs.
How much sponsorship do I have to raise?
We do not ask for a minimum amount of sponsorship but please remember every pound you raise will go towards helping the Peace Hospice continue to care for people with a life limiting or terminal illness. Click here to set up your online fundraising page
How can I get sponsorship?
Ask everyone who knows you and don’t forget to ask them to tick the Gift Aid box, if they are eligible, as this will increase their sponsorship by 25p per pound. We also suggest you set up a fundraising page on Virgin Money Giving or Just Giving. It's a great way of getting your friends and family to support you, just by forwarding them the website link to your own fundraising page. It only takes 5 mins to set up.
Who is eligible to tick the Gift Aid box?
If the person sponsoring you is a UK tax payer or pays Capital Gains Tax then you can make the donation worth even more. For every £1 you give to us we get an extra 25p.
Is the route suitable for wheelchairs?
The 6 mile route is suitable, but the 13 mile route is not really suitable for wheelchairs. Please contact us to discuss further.
Do I need special footwear or clothing?
We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing and well fitting footwear.
Will there be parking on the night?
Please try to car share where possible, but more details to follow nearer the event.
Where is the registration point?
You will be given a wristband that you must bring along with you and wear on the night. Registration will take place in the foyer at the Colosseum, Watford on your arrival.
Can my partner come along on the night?
Men cannot take part in the walk but we do need marshals to help us.
If you know of anyone who would be willing to help in this way, please email us or call us on 01923 330340. There will be a briefing session for all marshals in the run up to the event.
Please let us know in plenty of time if you know of someone who can help out on the night.
